Is making money on the internet hard to do? Not if you believe all of those people who are trying to sell you their latest get rich scheme/secret strategy/insider knowledge that they have used to supposedly make millions. In fact it is beginning to seem like there are more people selling internet marketing products than is actually involved in internet marketing. While some of the products are good and can definitely help you to make money others are less so and are little more than a waste of your time.
If you are going to have a go at internet marketing (and you should) there are a few key points that you need to be aware of before you start. First of all don’t believe the hype. You may be tempted to invest in the latest 12 part course from a leading internet marketer or the latest bit of software that is guaranteed to make you millions. However before you part with a penny make sure that you do plenty of research first. There are some great internet marketing forums where you can go to get ideas, learn about scams and find out who can really help you to make money.
I may be sounding like the world of internet marketing is full of people who are trying to get rich at your expense. However don’t be put off. With a little knowledge you can give these people a wide berth and concentrate on legitimate opportunities. There are plenty of these around and the internet marketing field covers a whole host of opportunities that can help you to make a fantastic online living. When you are just starting out there are just two key points that you need to focus on. The first of these is:
Traffic
Whether you want to try affiliate marketing, opening an online store, dropshipping, Adsense or PPC you need traffic to do it. Without enough traffic and visitors to your site you aren’t going to make a cent. Basically the more people you have coming to your site the more sales you will make and the more profit you will make. It is impossible to overstate the importance of high levels of traffic for any online business.
There are several different ways to get the traffic you need to be successful and you should experiment till you find the combination that is right for you. A website that ranks naturally in the first page of Google should be the aim for anyone who owns a website. Obviously this takes time to do even for the less competitive keywords and phrases. So it may be worth using paid search marketing to bring visitors to your site via AdWords and PPC. Finally you can use social media sites to bring your website to a larger audience.
It doesn’t matter which method or methods you use so long as people know about and visit your website. While stopping people in the street and telling them about your website may be going a little too far if it gets people visiting it, it probably isn’t.
Quality
Quality matters. There is no doubt about that. Making sure that you provide quality products, information and services is the key to achieving long term success online. While it may be tempting to cut corners and cobble together a couple of websites it is not the way to go. Here’s why:
First Impressions: Would you buy something from a site that looks like it has been put together by a 6 year old and offers you no information or value? I doubt it. Your website is the first and possibly only point of contact your customers will have with you so make sure that it is up to the job. Make sure it is well laid out, engaging and makes a killer first impression.
Repeat Business: The key to any businesses success is having customers that come back time and time again. Providing quality services, products and customer satisfaction through a quality website is the best way to do this.
Trust: If you want people to buy from your website, or even buy from a site that you are linking to, then you need them to trust you. Would you give your bank card details to a site that you don’t trust? If you have any hope of making a sale you need a quality site that potential customers will be able to put their trust in.
Links: Links from other sites are like a vote of confidence in your website saying that it has something positive to offer. Are people and websites more likely to make links to spammy sites or to quality ones offer genuine help, products and information?
If you are just starting out in the exciting world of internet marketing these are the two key points that should be guiding all you do. Offering a quality service in whatever you do and attracting enough visitors to profit from your hard work.
